Vice-President Paramanand Jha said that it was unfortunate that Nepal, an agro-based country, has a compulsion of importing food grains from other countries. Speaking at a program in the capital, Vice-President Jha said that the government should bring a policy to promote production growth as demands for food grains is also increased with the increasing population. Jha said the government should bring such programs which promote agriculture sector at a time when more than 80 per cent population are depending on agriculture. He added that the country would be self- sufficient in agriculture gradually if irrigation system in Terai was strengthened. Jha stressed that Nepali workers who have been in foreign countries in course of overseas employment, should utilize knowledge related to agriculture, which they gained in connection to overseas employment, in Nepal.
